Goldenhand
With this cover my main focus was in making sure that people could recognise, at a glance, that this book was part of Garth Nix's series, since the name of the book, Goldenhand, isn't immediately associated with the Old Kingdom novels. I wanted the red of Lirael to really pop off the page and register with Garth's fans. Even though she isn't wearing red in the book, I felt like that was the quickest way for readers to recognise her. So, by that note, most of the roughs feature Lirael, even though there are many other great characters in the book. Also, frankly, Lirael is my favourite character and I just want to paint her whenever I can.
